sustainable agriculture

Here at the farm, we have a clear yet massive mission. We're big dreamers, but I'd be lying if I said less was enough.

We are people who believe in community, we are apprentice market gardeners, and we wish to respectfully feed as many people as possible. We wish to redefine with the help of many others what it is to farm, favouring permaculture, old methods and the indigenous plants.

We are offering small weekly veggie baskets from July to November to our clients and extras to locals for pick up. This year the quantity is very limited but as the gardens grow so will our baskets.

Our primary mission is to reduce all forms of suffering; be it animal, human or environmental. Any suffering caused by what we eat and how we feed ourselves. Offering plant-based meals does not suffice as we must be certain that by doing so no other areas suffer.

All these values or guidelines make for less variety, obviously. But, what price are you willing to pay for plate diversity. How much pain are you willing to inflict. We want to prove to you, that this is very far from boring, and that some small compromises can have a big impact.

Our priorities:

Plant-based: there will never be any animal products, in our food. This is non-negotiable, and we will never change.

Aline et l'aube manifesto

Local first: we will always prioritize local farmers. If we must choose between the neighbors non certified tomato and an organic imported tomato, we will go to the neighbors.

Seasonal: our recipes are as often as possible in season. This helps our clients change into this new greener lifestyle. Filling up on roots all winter and bingeing on cucumbers all summer. Our gardens are planned out prioritizing conservation. Choosing those that keep the longest, such as; roots, tubers, squash, onion, garlic, dried herbs and spices.

Zero waste: we buy as often as possible directly from neighboring farms, in bulk or in zero waste markets. Our products are only sold in glass jars or cotton bags. This is sometimes difficult and restrictive but we're proud.

Organic: we love organic, as we're super against pesticides, however we aren't certified and know other farmers like us, who don't use pesticides but aren't labeled and we trust them.

Fairtrade: we rarely use chocolate or coffee, but when we do, it's always fair trade, this is non-negotiable. We are always looking for better sources for imported foods always favouring fair trade.

But, we're more than our meals. We want to offer you monthly seasonal plant-based recipes. We want to offer simple and seasonal courses, plants, their seeds, preserves and seasonal veggies.

All while building a small tight-knit community that dreams of change. Eventually, we dream of seminars, special events, art classes, yoga, méditation..a place simply filled with love and hope.

But, all in good time.

For this project's funding, we're really counting on our regulars; those who will order the weekly meals. But also, those who will stop by for produce, preserves or specials.

Also, my new art shop, something I opened soley to finance our plant nursery and expansion of our gardens. This shop, is mostly linocut prints, some embroidery and whatever my insomnia pushes me to create.

This text is way longer than I had expected, but my heart is full, when I speak of this I know I found my place, my calling, my dream.

Honest with myself, clear-minded, all my values aligned. I would love to have you join us, no matter in what way.
